This Day in History Game!
It's a simple game! Each day around midnight AlissaTucci will post a random date in the "This day in History" thread. Your job will be to find something that happened on that date, no matter how small or large of an event it was. You are also encouraged to post pictures that support your event, but it is not required.
For example, November 4th:
2008 - Barack Obama was elected president. or 1948 - T. S. Eliot was awarded the Nobel Prize.
The catch is that you cannot post the same event that has already been posted. We also do not want to encourage copying & pasting information, so please summarize in your own words what you are posting about. You also must post the YEAR of your event. Everyone that participates wins 1 casino chip! The person with the most interesting post wins an extra casino chip! Your post must be before midnight EST, otherwise it will not count. Also, please allow up to 48 hours to receive credit for this promotion.
This should be a fun one! Enjoy!

Charles C. Scruggs aka "Wish Bone" or "Straight Jacket" was born on this day. He is one of the members of one of my favorite rap groups called "Bone Thugs ~n~ Harmony," and is the cousin of two members of the group, which is famously known for the unique vocal harmonization of their fast lyrics. Edit: The year is 1975.

On June 17th,1986 we loss to diabetes a great America singer - Kate Smith. Kate was very well known for her rendition of God Bless America. Now as a lifetime resident of Philadelphia that I am, I can recall the special relationship that Kate had with our professional hockey team the Flyers. The Flyers' record when Kate Smith's God Bless America is played in person or tape is lifetime 77 wins, only 21 losses, and 4 ties. Now that's quite a winning percentage.

Newsweek was founded in 1933, the same year that its rival United States News (which later merged with World Report) was launched, and ten years after the newsweekly genre was initiated with the appearance of Time magazine in 1923. Originally named News-Week by founder Thomas J. C. Martyn (a former Time editor), the magazine's first issue, on February 17, 1933, featured seven photographs of current events on its cover. A copy of the newly launched magazine cost 10 cents, or $4 for a year's subscription; its circulation was 50,000.
