This was a question posed on another forum I post (believe it or not - I'm only on Squishy about 90% of the time - LOL). It was very interesting to read the responses and I thought I'd post it here. So which would you rather be - incredibly smart but dog ugly, or dumb as a box of hair but beauty queen gorgeous? (Of course we all know that here on Squishy we're both beautiful and smart - but let's play pretend).
BTW - I'll post my answer after I get a few back ;D

I like everyone else, will occasionally say something dumb or do something stupid. With that being said, I whole heartedly value my mind over my appearance. I feel as though life would be terribly unsatisfying without the mind to comprehend and interact intelligently. While, I also enjoy male attention for my looks, I don't think I'd truly be happy if that's all I had. I think I would feel somewhat worthless if I couldn't "keep up". I mean, think about what you could do if you were incredibly smart...whereas your opportunities are probably more limited if you were simply gorgeous.
On the other hand, if you were really dog ugly, I'm sure your self confidence might not be so high...in that sense it would be really tough to interact with others.
I must stick to my position and say I'd prefer to be dog ugly (LOL) and smart.

You can fix ugly but you can't fix dumb. So I would say ugly.

I agree with Jennteel you can fix ugly but dumb is very hard to overcome!

;D - everyone on the other topic picked smart & ugly also - except me - let me tell you why (course you're gonna have to follow s'belle logic here, so you might get a headache!): Stupid seems to be kind of like not having a sense of humor or being a bad driver - everyone knows people like this, but no one thinks they are one. I've never in my entire life met a stupid person that knows they're stupid (and believe me - I've met some pretty stupid people - LOL). So if your beautiful and dumb, you would think you were of normal or above average intelligence, but beautiful - right? And you would be happy with who you are. Maybe you wouldn't get to have intellectually stimulating conversation - but heck, if your stupid, a discussion on "shades of the color pink" would be intellectually stimulating  ;D. Or even think of the old joke - why don't pretty girls have personalities - cause they don't have to. Now if you're intelligent, you're gonna know your ugly! And while some ugly can be fixed, I've also seen some people that no amount of plastic surgery will help. Plus, most of the really intelligent (I mean genius IQs) people I've met have social or adjustment problems and are prone to depression - think of it as the "Dilbert" factor. So you're super smart, but you don't fit in well and you know your horribly ugly - surely thats going to make you unhappy - you may cover your unhappiness with a feeling of superiority, but its still going to be there. So my thinking is - I would rather be happy any day of the week and that's why I would choose beautiful and dumb. Hope I didn't give anyone a headache w/ my twisted logic ;D |

Im gonna go with smart and ugly, (even tho at 6'3 im tall dark and handsome, as well as modest)...hahaha
....but smart ugly people can make handsome dumb peoples lives a living hell if they wanted to...imagine being too cute an dumb to figure your way out of a maze that a smart ugly person put together...you'd die beautiful, lost, and starved to death...poetic....

See, I'd say I don't know. Yes, you can fix ugly, but like Southern pointed out, there is just some ugly you can't fix.  At the same time, I don't think I'd ever be happy just being the pretty girl, and only being valued conditionally. Beauty can always fade away. Now, intelligence is learned, so I could be pretty and learn to be smart? lol I really can't answer this question. I just thank God that I don't have to choose. |

LOL - yea but if your beautiful, someone will take pity on you and help you out of the maze, buy you dinner, etc. before we got to the point where gas is $3.50 a gallon, and a gallon of milk is even higher then that in some places i would agree, but in this day and age, ms beautiful and dumb would probably get robbed before she got any help..it seems to me most murder victims are not mudducks...so being ugly and smart has its value to keeping you safer also.. |
