Hi, I just was wandering, did you learn any other languages at school. My native language is Dutch.
I learned English (ofcourse, otherwise I could not join in on this site) German, and I even learned some French. I was wondering how it is working in countries abroad. Do you learn other languages at school.
Also my daughter, who is on primairy school, is learning english as from age 9, (she is 11 now)

I took Spanish for 5 years - 7th-11th grade. In high school I wanted to take Latin, but with two years of Spanish already under my belt, I just stuck with it. I was also placed in a higher class in high school since my two years in middle school counted as the freshman class. I was a freshmen in with the sophomores, sophomore with the juniors, junior with the seniors. (Middle school is usually 6th-8th grade. High School is 9th-12th grade. It may be different where you are carlab:) ) My husband always asks me 'What are they saying?' when he comes across a Spanish channel or hears people talking Spanish, and I have to keep telling him I understand better than I can speak because I don't remember a lot (don't use it - you lose it!) and they talk so darn fast it is hard to keep up! I think that is awesome that you can speak different languages. I understand a few words in different languages, but not enough of anything to help me if need be! When I was little, I used to know Polish. But now, forget it. I don't know what school offer nowadays or at what grade they start. My son is 4 so I have a little ways to go before I have to worry about that one

I'm like you Beckie. I had 8 years of Spanish ~ was required from the 3rd grade until it could be an elective in high school. I can follow most conversations.........but like you if you don't use it you lose it .......although I could probably still get most of what I needed in broken Spanish if I had to use it.
I have a Vietnamise friend who is American born and raise with no accent.......but his vietnamise is very fluent with the accent and I tell him that to me every word he is saying sounds the same. I think it would be a very hard language to learn.....and he has laughed at me when I have tried. I have a very pronounced southern accent........lol.

There was this great suggestion from Ririen, a new member, she wanted to teach here language. I thought it would be asome to learn new words, So perhaps we can start here, I say a word in Dutch, with translation to english, and someone else say the same word in their native language
I start here with Hallo, goedemorgen, goedemiddag, goedeavond, Hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening
Who is next?
