April 30, 1921
Annie Edson Taylor --Seeking a new career that would earn her fame and fortune--the first person --and only woman-- to survive going over the niagara falls in a special designed barrel on October 24, 1901, calling herself "the queen of the mist" died on April 30, 1921. (she was in her later 50/early 60s when she went over the falls)

August 16, 1812
Detroit surrenders to the British....General Isaac Brock besieged Detroit led by William Hull. Hull failed to resist the British invasion of Michigan. Hull surrerender with out consulting his officers and was later court martialed found guilty and sentenced.
President James Madison carried out the sentence because Hull's actions remain the only time in American history when an American city has been surrendered to a foreign enemy.

August 16, 2008 was the day my dad passed away at 59 years old. I know it's not history but it's my history. I thought it was interesting that it was the same day Elvis died- Elvis was his favorite.
